Things I've Done SAQ SAQ is a type of coaching which is now used in primary schools, to the highest level professional sporting teams. I was in a group of 3 who were the first people under the age of 18 to obtain this award in coaching speed, agility and quickness.
CSLA
A community sport leader award taught me how to coach people of varying abilities different sports and recreational activities. In order to do this, I had to volunteer time in helping children, and so I coached my school rugby team every week for 2 years.
BTECH Peer Mentoring
I volunteered to help children who are struggling with family life or social exclusion. I had to go on a 2 day residencial which taught me how to address these problems. Every week I helped talk to students with problems, as well as being assigned my own specific pupil to make sure he was progressing from primary to secondary school with minimal problems.
JFO
Using my skills from CSLA and SAQ, I enrolled on a JFO course with my sports college. This allowed me to teach people football specifically, as well as running events such as a football tournament for over 100 pupils.
First Aider
I participated in a three week first aid course in emergency life support and now trained to give assistance to casualties in a state of emergency and knowledgeable on how to give CPR.
Certified Skiier
In December 2002 I was coached in the Sierra Nevada mountain range (Spain) on Skiing and received a B certificate from the Official Skiing School of Andalucia.
Events Madrid and Wirral School Link This link between two foreign schools was to encoruage languages, sport and coaching. Spanish and English secondary school students delivered a festival of sports to local primary schools, without the usual role teachers would have. As an A level student in IT and Spanish, as well as my role as Sport Senior Captain and qualified coach, it was my responsibility to oversee and manage the event. I was required to talk to the Spanish teachers and students, as well as help out with the general running and activities. This event was accredited positively by the local press and the link between the two schools is still evident today.
Festival of Languages Contributor Festival of Languages encourages students to express their creativity with languages. For this festival I represented my college on two consecutive years in which I created a poem as well as a sketch that was performed live infront of a large audience.
Attended El Principe Summer School To enhance my languages skills I attended a summer school with native Spanish speakers. During two weeks of these classes my confidence socially was boosted along with my ability.
Organised and managed Pensby Football Tournament As part of a Citizenship study at GCSE in which I achieved a grade A, I organised a football tournament for students within my school. This tournament meant overseeing over 100 pupils as well as guiding the teachers on which games to officiate.
Managed Rafel Benitez campaign that managed to gain national press and receive over 40,000 signatures within a two week period. As an avid Liverpool fan I decided to help voice the growing concerns of fans with the rumoured lack of job security of our manager Rafael Benitez. To do this I bought a domain, registered a petition, sent links to the press and marketed it on a variety of websites. The result was a direct letter from the club's chief executive as well as national press in which I was quoted in hourly loops on the countries largest sport's news television programme.
